Purpose
To provide guidelines to ensure a professional and efficient work environment
Obedience of Rules
Any violation of these General Rules shall be considered sufficient cause for disciplinary action.
Employment Status/Scheduling
1. Employment Status:
Full-time: Full-time employment status consists of a 58 hour work week broken down as follows: two 24 hour shifts (0800-0800) and one 10 hour shift (1000-2000).
Contingent: Contingent employment status is on as as-needed basis. Personnel must submit their availability to management/designee on a monthly basis.
Scheduling:
Primary shifts shall be 24 hours in length and begin at 0800 hours unless otherwise noted on schedule and approved by Management.
Total hours scheduled per week will be determined by Management/designee
Personnel are not considered relieved of duty until properly replaced by an employee of equal licensure.
6.4 Personnel Shift Changes
Shift change requests shall be submitted to management/designee for approval. Management/designee reserves the right to approve/deny any shift change request.
6.9 Smoking
Smoking is prohibited in the ambulances and on scenes. There will be a designated smoking area at the HL Ambulance Authority station.
6.10 Uniform
Personnel shall wear the standard issue uniform during the hours of 0800 - 1700. Standard issue jumpsuits may be worn after 1700 hours. Exception to this guideline must be approved by management/designee. Uniforms shall be clean, neat, and adorned with approved accessories.
6.12 Visitors
Station visitors shall leave HL Ambulance Authority station premises by 2200 hours. If personnel leave the station for any reason, their visitors shall leave also unless otherwise approved by management/designee. Personnel are responsible for the conduct of their visitors.
6.13 Housekeeping Duties
1. Chores:
A list of daily, weekly and monthly chores shall be kept at the HL Ambulance Authority station. These chores shall be completed as directed by management/designee.
2. Snow Removal:
Personnel shall be responsible for keeping the station doorways and in front of the ambulance bays snow and ice free.
6.14 Ambulance Inspections/Paperwork
1. Rig checks shall be done at the start of each shift by the in-coming crew. Rig check sheets are available in the HL Ambulance Authority station.
2. Whenever an ambulance responds to a call, it shall be the responsibility of the attending personnel to restock, clean and whatever else is necessary to make the ambulance ready for the next call.
3. Ambulances shall be refueled at the ¾ mark.
6.15 Home Visits
On duty personnel living within our coverage area, shall by allowed to visit their residence as needed. Visits should be kept to a bare minimum and management/designee may restrict home visits if a problem arises.
6.17 Continuing Education
Personnel shall maintain current level of licensure and/or certificates as required by State and Medical Control.
Personnel who fail to maintain certifications required by Medical Control shall be placed on a non-disciplinary unpaid suspension from HL Ambulance Authority until such time as certification becomes current.
Personnel who fail to maintain their current level of licensure as required by the State of placeStateMichigan shall result in automatic termination of employment from HL Ambulance Authority. At such time that an employee's licensure becomes current, said employee may submit an application to HL Ambulance Authority for re-hire. HL Ambulance Authority reserves the right to re-hire or not to re-hire said employee. As maintaining a level of licensure is required by the State of placeStateMichigan, there can not be any deviation from allowing said employee to work at HL Ambulance Authority. However, management/designee shall approve whether said employee is automatically terminated or allowed to be on a suspended employment status until such time that the level of licensure becomes current.
6.18 Vacation
Vacation eligibility is as follows:
1. Full-time employees shall be eligible for one-week of vacation time after one year of employment.
2. Full-time employees shall be eligible for two weeks of vacation time after three years of employment.
3. One-week of regularly scheduled time constitutes one-week vacation time.
4. Eligible vacation time must be used and not carried over. Management/designee may approve an employee the opportunity to utilize vacation time in a manner that is not consistent with this policy and will be on a case-by-case basis.
5. Vacation requests must be in writing on a “vacation request” form available in the HL Ambulance Authority office and submitted to management/designee at least one week prior to requested days off.
